The Israeli occupation revealed on Tuesday, 7 February 2023 a plan to build 9,000 illegal settlement units on an area of 1,234 dunums of stolen Palestinian lands of Qalandia Airport, north of occupied Jerusalem.
The new Israeli government coalition, led by far-right parties is pushing ahead with a plan to establish illegal settlement units on the lands of occupied Jerusalem International Airport near the Qalandia refugee camp, north of occupied Jerusalem, according to the Hebrew website ‘The Marker’.
The new government is trying to advance this plan after nearly three decades during which the government refrained from planning and establishing Israeli settlements within the 1967-occupied Palestinian lands, the website added.
The Hebrew website asserted that the United States exerted international pressure on Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to prevent the establishment of the illegal settlement units because it would cut off the regional contiguity of the Palestinian neighborhoods, prevent their expansion, and affect the possibility of a political settlement in the future.
It’s worth noting that more than 650,000 colonial settlers were distributed among 164 illegal settlements and 124 outposts built on the stolen lands of occuiped West Bank and Jerusalem.
In 2022, the Israeli occupation government approved 83 plans to build 8,288 new illegal settlement units in the occuiped West Bank and 2,635 other units in occupied Jerusalem.
The West Bank and Jerusalem lands are occupied territories based on International law due to this all Israeli settlement-building activities there are illegal.
