According to the UN Agency for Palestinian refugees (UNRWA), the Israeli offensive in the Gaza Strip killed more than 10,000 women and caused injuries to 19,000 others.
The UNRWA stated that the war on Gaza is disproportionately affecting women, with an average of 37 children losing their mothers daily.
It stated that “conditions are appealing”, highlighting that “over 155,000 pregnant or breastfeeding women faced with severely limited access to water and sanitary items.”
This report comes amid ongoing and escalating violence against the Gaza Strip, which have led to extensive casualties and damage in the region.
Over 34,600 Palestinians have been killed and more than 77,800 injured, with women and children comprising the majority of the victims.
Additionally, Israel’s blockade of Gaza, particularly in the northern region, has exacerbated humanitarian crises, with residents facing severe shortages of food and other necessities.
Israel is facing accusations of genocide at the International Court of Justice (ICJ), prompting an interim ruling in January that called for an end to genocidal acts and the provision of humanitarian aid to civilians in Gaza.
