January 6 marks the 14th anniversary of the Israeli massacre in Al-Fakhoura School, northern Gaza Strip. At least 43 Palestinians were massacred by Israeli missiles.
On the afternoon of January 6, 2009, Israeli occupation tanks attacked the UN-Fakhura school and its surrounding with at least three shells in Jabalia, northern Gaza Strip, killing at least 42 Palestinians and injuring hundreds.
Under the heavy Israeli bombardment, hundreds of Palestinians fled their homes to UNRWA schools in search of safety. A large number of families have already lost their homes due to the Israeli bombing.
Safety is a meaningless word in times of Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip. Everyone is targeted everywhere. Children, men, women, and adults were under Israeli airstrikes.
Palestinian sources reported that 14 of the victims were children. Meanwhile, 10 members of one family fell victim to the Israeli bombing.
Israel initially claimed that the bombing was in response to gunfire believed to be coming from the Al-Fakhura school. A UN statement confirmed that there was no firing from the school.
The massacre took place during the 2008-Israeli aggression on Gaza started on December 29, 2008. The aggression lasted for 23 days.
During the aggression, Israeli raids and bombings killed at least 1409 Palestinians, including 355 children and 111 women.
