Israeli occupation renewed Monday, 12 December 2022 the administrative detention of a Jerusalemite prisoner for an additional three months hours before his release.
Israeli occupation authorities renewed the administrative detention of the Jerusalemite prisoner Areen Al-Za’anin hours before his release after he spent 9 months in administrative detention, stated Amjad Abu Asab, The head of the Committee of the Families of Jerusalemite Prisoners.
Israeli occupation arrested Al-Za’anin on March 2022 and he was transferred to administrative detention for a period of six months.
Israeli occupation court renewed his administrative detention as soon as it ended for an additional three months.
Al-Za’anin was supposed to be released today but the Israeli occupation extended his detention for the third time in a row.
The Israeli occupation has escalated its administrative detention policy against Palestinians as the number of administrative detainees currently exceeded 760, including minors, women, and the elderly, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Commission.
The Commission added that 80 percent of the administrative detainees are former prisoners who spent years in the prisons most were administrative detentions.
Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention is a pre-emptive measure that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for lengthy periods of time based on disclosed allegations that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
