Arab states had removed Islamic holy sites and Arabic historic places in Jerusalem from UNESCO draft resolution, news website revealed on Thursday.
“Arab states have decided to take a step back from the sensitive issue of Jerusalem and their resolution was shortened from six pages to two,” Israeli Ynet News reported.

The news website added: “The language [of the resolution] was clearly softened in comparison to previous draft resolutions.”
A couple of months ago, the UNESCO voted on a resolution that decided no religious or historical connection between Jews and Jerusalem’s holy sites, causing uproar among Israelis and their allies.
The Israeli news website considered this a “diplomatic win for Israel” as the “Temple Mount and Western Wall, Jewish names for Al-Aqsa Mosque and Al-Buraq Wall, will not be mentioned nor included in any vote or measure during a UNESCO meeting on Jerusalem and the territories on May 1.
Ynet News said the draft it obtained, which reveals the Arabic retreat, “represents a significant achievement for the Israeli ministry of foreign affairs and Israeli diplomacy at UNESCO.”
According to the draft, the Arabs only kept the “Rachel’s Tomb in Bethlehem and the Tomb of Patriarch in Al-Khalil, Jewish names of Bilal Bin Rabah Mosque and Al-Ibrahimi Mosque respectively.”
Regarding previous decision, the Israeli envoy to UNESCO Carmel Shama Hacohen said: “Israel is demanding to remove the clause entirely or to specify that decisions related to the Temple Mount are not binding.
