Amnesty International has urged Israeli occupation either to charge the Palestinian hunger-striker Bilal Kayed or to release him.
The Palestinian hunger-striker Bilal Kayed had completed his sentence before he was turned to administrative detention on June 15.
Kayed spent 14 and half a year inside the Israeli prisons and was due to be released in the middle of June. His family prepared everything to celebrate his release, but when he finished his last day, he was turned to illegal administrative detention.
“The Israeli authorities must charge or release Bilal Kayed, who they placed under administrative detention on the day he was due to be released after serving a 14-and-a-half-year sentence in prison,” the statement said.
It added: “Kayed went on hunger strike on 15 June 2016 in protest at his detention without charge or trial, and since then has taken only water and some minerals; he is now in poor health.”
Kayed has been on hunger strike over than 65 days now, but two weeks ago, he was admitted to the Israeli Barzilai Hospital in after dramatic deterioration of his health condition.
He refuses medical examinations and care and only has water, along with salts, sugar and vitamin B1, a Palestinian rights group said. This is what hunger-strikers always do.
The Physicians for Human Rights NGO says his vision is failing, he has difficulty standing and that doctors have warned he could be at risk of a stroke.
Despite his deteriorated health, Kayed is still handcuffed to his bed in the Israeli hospital where Israeli soldiers accompanying him.
