Days of Palestine, Jerusalem -Israeli court refused on Tuesday to freeze demolition orders of residential homes owned by Arabs in the occupied city of Al-Lid.
Arab citizens appealed to the Israeli Central Court in Jerusalem against the decision of the Israeli Magistrate Court in Al-Lid that refused to freeze demolition orders of three homes for Arab citizens.
Planning and Construction Committee of Al-Lid Municipality handed over demolition orders to Arab owners of three houses in the occupied city after carrying out renovation work and adding small extensions.

The owners of the houses appealed against the decision in the Magistrate Court in the city, but it refused the appeal and decided that the houses must be demolished “very quickly.”
Following this decision, the owners filed an appeal to the Central Court, which gave them a very short ultimatum to solve the issue of the houses with the Israeli Jewish municipality of the city or demolish the houses.
According to the owners, the houses, which were built before the Israeli occupation in 1948, were renovated and very small extensions were added to them in order to adapt with the natural increase of their inhabitants.
Regarding the reason why they did these things without getting the needed permissions, one of the owners told Days of Palestine: “We applied for renovation and addition licenses and paid a very huge amount of money for the needed fees, but we received negative responses.”
Member of the Popular Committee in Al-Lid Abdul-Karim Zabarkeh said: “The situation is very complicated here regarding Arabs. The Israeli Jewish municipality of the city does not issue building or renovation permits unless under very difficult or you can say impossible conditions.”
He noted that the Israeli occupation has demolished tens of Arab houses in the occupied cities of Al-Lid and Al-Ramalah in the recent couple of years, making tens of Arabs (Palestinians) homeless in the so-called sole democratic state in the Middle East.
