The general unemployment rate in the Gaza Strip reached about 47%, while it reached 74% among the youth, said Gaza’s Ministry of Labor on International Workers’ Day which falls on 1 May.
On this occasion, Hamas said that the world celebrates International Workers’ Day, at a time when Palestinian workers are still suffering from the Israeli occupation and its racist measures.
Hamas added in a statement, “the continuation of the Israeli occupation of our land and its targeting of the capabilities of our people for more than seventy years, is a racist war crime, and it is the one that has caused all the human suffering experienced by our people, especially the workers, who are exposed daily to all forms of targeting through the siege, restriction, and prevention of the most basic rights.”
“We reject all forms of targeting of the UNRWA, by transforming or canceling its real role, and we consider it a crime against the Palestinian right and human being, as it witnessed the crimes of the occupation in displacing our people,” said Hamas. “We call for enabling Palestinian refugees, wherever they are, to exercise their rights, foremost of which is the right to work.”
“We call on international organizations and human rights institutions to expose the crimes of the Israeli occupation against Palestinian workers, and take action to lift the siege on the Gaza Strip, which restricts workers in their livelihood and freedom.”
