Netanyahu lies to his own people

Days of Palestine, Occupied Palestine –Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu delivered a speech to his people telling them big lies about his failure war on Gaza.

Netanyahu came under severe criticism by his own people as he did not disclose the terms of the ceasefire deal brokered by Egypt and ended the 51 day of Israeli attacks on Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

He was also severely criticised by members of his own ministerial council and even the members of his cabinet as he did not conduct a vote on the deal. He even did not tell them that he was to accept it.

Appearing on TV sitting beside his Defence Minister Moshe Ya’alon and Chief of Staff Benny Gantz, he said that Hamas “was hit hard.”

He also said that his government would not tolerate any rocket fired at the Israeli cities or settlements. “We will not tolerate even a sprinkle of rocket fire at any part of ‘Israel’,” said Netanyahu. “We would respond even more vigorously than before.”

In addition, he said that none of Hamas demands was achieved and Hamas returned too many years backwards.

‘False victory’

Immediately, after the end of Netanyahu speech, Israeli analysts started to refuse his claims about deterring Hamas and claiming victory over it. They wondered why did not he announced the end of the war and why did he accepted the war to end under heavy Hamas’ rockets.

The last hours before the announcement of the ceasefire, Israeli settlements and cities came under heavy barrages of Hamas rockets, which killed two Israelis and wounded several.

Meanwhile, Hamas spokesman Mushir al-Masri described Netanyahu in his speech as trying to create a “false victory” to improve his political standing.

“Netanyahu is trying to fix his public status, but he will end up like Olmert,” Hamas spokesman and member of the Palestinian parliament said.

Al-Masri was referring to the largely unpopular former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, who faced significant public criticism for his decisions, and was recently slapped with a jail sentence on charges of corruption.
