Four Palestinian administrative detainees in Israeli jails suspended on Monday, 14 August 2023 their open-ended hunger strike after Israeli promises to set a ceiling for their administrative detention.
The Palestinian prisoners club reported that the 4 Palestinian administrative detainees in Nafha Prison, Saleh Rabaya, Saif Hamdan, Qusay Khader, and Osama Khalil suspended a hunger strike that lasted 16 days in protest of their administrative detention.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the 29-year-old Palestinian detainee Saif Hamdan from the town of Barqa, Nablus has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since October 4, 2022.
Saleh Rabaya, 22, from the town of Mithlon in Jenin has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since February 8 of 2023.
The Israeli occupation has arrested the 25-year-old Palestinian young man Qusai Khader from Al-Amari camp, Ramallah, since December 14, 2022. Khader is a former detainee who spent 14 months in the Israeli jails and shortly after his release, Israeli troops rearrested him.
Osama Khalil, 23, from Al-Fara’a camp has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since May 17, 2022.
The Israeli occupation has escalated its administrative detention policy against Palestinians as the number of administrative detainees currently exceeded 760, including minors, women, and the elderly, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Commission.
The Commission added that 80 percent of the administrative detainees are former prisoners who spent years in the prisons most were administrative detentions.
Since 2023, the Israeli occupation has issued about 1978 administrative detention warrants until the end of last July, according to the data of the Prisoners’ Club.
Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention is a pre-emptive measure that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for lengthy periods of time based on disclosed allegations that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Palestinian detainees have constantly resorted to hunger strikes as a method to oppose their administrative detention, demanding an end to this illegal policy that violates international law and Human rights accords.
