The world commemorates today the Press Freedom Day meanwhile the Israeli occupation continues its violations against Palestinian journalists.
Israeli occupation continues to restrict the professional freedom of media in occupied Palestine and prevents them from carrying out their work to convey the image and the truth.
The World Press Freedom Day adopted by the United Nations General Assembly in December 1993, the Journalist Bloc pays tribute to all the efforts of the press, which continue to work with professionalism in uncovering the crimes of the occupation against people and the land and to the cause.
In 2022, the Bloc records more than 301 Israeli violations against media freedoms in Palestine, documented by human rights and international organizations, whose role is still not up to the size of tenders submitted by journalists in all fields of confrontation.
According to the Bloc, more than 60 violations against Palestinian media sites and social media accounts, ranging from deletion, prohibition, or restriction of publications. The violations included the Palestinian content, especially anti-occupation policies.
Meanwhile, the bloc confirmed the detention of 19 Palestinian journalists in the Israeli occupation jails on charges of incitement and the posting of publications on social media pages.
Palestinian journalist bloc said in a statement that on this anniversary, which is taking place against the background of a harsh reality facing journalists, we warn of the great gravity of the increased arrests, attacks, and summonses against journalists working in occupied Palestine.
“We affirm that this is a flagrant violation of press freedoms and a clear violation of all international laws and instruments,” the bloc stressed.
Palestinian journalist bloc called on international, humanitarian, and legal institutions to document the crimes perpetrated against journalists in the occupied Palestinian territories and to play their true role in condemning and criminalizing the occupation before the International Criminal Court.
“We call on the international community to intervene to stop the Israeli violations against Palestinian journalists, they said.
The bloc called on Palestinians to unify the body of journalists and to seek a Palestinian union that truly represents journalists as a shield that provides the necessary immunity to deter Israeli violations of all kinds.
