DaysofPal- A group of 28 international activists from 13 countries has announced the start of an open-ended global hunger strike in solidarity with members of a Gaza-bound humanitarian convoy who are being arbitrarily detained.
The move coincides with the eighth day of a hunger strike by the detained convoy activists themselves, who are refusing food inside detention facilities in protest against the unjust arrest and to pressure for their immediate and unconditional release.
The solidarity action is being carried out under the slogan “The hunger strike battle is expanding globally,” aiming to draw international attention to the cause of activists detained while carrying out humanitarian efforts intended to break the blockade on Gaza.
Organizers also hope to turn the issue into a matter of global public opinion capable of increasing pressure for their release.
Most of the detained activists are reportedly being held in prisons run by authorities in eastern Libya under the leadership of Khalifa Haftar.
The campaign reflects growing international mobilization around the issue, as activists seek to highlight the detention of individuals involved in humanitarian initiatives and push for their freedom.
