DaysofPal- The Palestinian Prisoner’s Media Office has released an updated statement confirming that 183 prisoners are set to be released on Saturday in the fourth exchange of captives held in Gaza.
Among them, 18 are serving life sentences, 54 have long-term sentences, and 111 are from the Gaza Strip, arrested after October 7, 2023.
“The revised number of prisoners scheduled for release tomorrow is 183,” said Amani Sarahneh, spokeswoman for the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society advocacy group, following an earlier announcement that 90 prisoners would be freed from Israeli jails.
On Thursday, Hamas released three Israelis and five Thai captives and Israel released 110 Palestinian prisoners after delaying the process after crowds swarmed one of the captive handover points.
Further discussions on implementing the second phase of the current truce, set to begin on March 1, aim to facilitate the release of over 60 additional captives, including men of military age, and a complete Israeli military withdrawal from Gaza.
If successful, this could pave the way for a formal end to Israel’s war in Gaza and initiate negotiations on the immense task of rebuilding the Palestinian enclave.
Meanwhile, Israeli military operations continue in Jenin and Tulkarem in the West Bank, while occupation forces have also raided several areas and towns, including Nablus, Hebron, and Ramallah.
