Tens of thousands of Israeli settlers protested Saturday, June 17, 2023, against the policies of the far-right Israeli government headed by its prime mister, Benjamin Netanyahu.
Israeli media reported that around 100,000 settlers took part in the main demonstration in Tel Aviv on Saturday night. In conjunction, “there were protests in about 150 cities.”
The protesters denounced the controversial proposals for judicial reform backed by the Netanyahu government. “We don’t have another country,” they wrote on the banners. Some of the banners were directed against the Israeli occupation of the Palestinian territories.
For months, tens of thousands of Israeli settlers have regularly taken to the streets to protest against the reform.
In short, the proposed judiciary overhaul will severely limit the Israeli Supreme Court’s ability to review and strike down laws that it deems unconstitutional.
