Palestinian residents and displaced people in Rafah, south of the Gaza enclave, issued Tuseday a statement through which they express their determination not abandon their city, even in the face of attempts by ‘Israel’ to evacuate them before an invasion.
Steadfastly, they will perish in their homes and tents, they added, preferring to endure rather than being forcefully displaced again to any other areas despite that a grave warning is sounded for an unprecedented massacre, threatening hundreds of thousands of residents, if the Israeli army invade.
The residents urgently call upon the international community to fulfill its responsibilities in safeguarding civilians within one of the world’s most densely populated and overcrowded cities.
The United Nations Aid Chief, Martin Griffiths, said the world has been appealing to the Israeli authorities for weeks to spare Rafah, but a ground operation there is on the immediate horizon.
“For the hundreds of thousands of people who have fled to Gaza’s southernmost point to escape disease, famine, mass graves and direct fighting, a ground invasion would spell even more trauma and death,” he added.
In spite of the global warning against invading Rafah, hardcore Israeli Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich stressed Tuesday that the Israeli military “must obliterate Rafah, Deir al-Balah, and Nuseirat. The memory of the Amalek must be erased. No partial destruction will suffice; only absolute and complete devastation.”
Early this April, Hebrew media reported that ‘Israel’ has procured tens of thousands of tents for Palestinian civilians it intends to evacuate from Rafah in the coming weeks ahead of a promised assault on the city it sees as the last bastion of Hamas in the Gaza enclave.
Rafah’s population has been swollen by more than a million Palestinians who fled the half-year-old Israeli offensive through the rest of Gaza, according to Reuters.
The last week has witnessed a surge in attacks by Israeli air forces against people on Rafah, leading to dozens of massacres and hundreds of martyrs.
In the daily briefing by the Ministry of Health in Gaza on day 207 of the Israeli genocide, the Israeli occupation committed more than five massacres against families in the Gaza Strip during 24 hours, resulting in 47 documented fatalities and 61 injuries, and raising the toll to 34,535 martyrs and 77,704 injuries since the October 7.
