DayofPal— Yemen’s presidency has confirmed that Prime Minister Ahmed Ghaleb Al-Rahwi and several cabinet ministers were killed in an Israeli airstrike last Thursday, marking a significant escalation in Israel’s widening military campaign across the region.
According to a statement released Saturday by the Yemeni presidency, the strike targeted a high-level government workshop in the capital, Sana’a, where ministers were reviewing the performance of their ministries over the past year.
“In the midst of the open battle with the Zionist entity, we present to our people and our nation a new group of great martyrs from our national leadership,” the presidency declared, expressing both condemnation and resolve in the wake of the attack.
Government officials confirmed that several senior ministers were killed in the strike, while others sustained moderate to severe injuries. Some remain under intensive medical care.
Thursday’s airstrike was part of a broader wave of Israeli attacks on Sana’a, with Israeli media outlets reporting that the operation targeted senior figures within Ansar Allah (commonly known as the Houthis).
Israel’s public broadcaster, Kan 11, claimed the intended targets included the group’s chief of staff and more than a dozen high-ranking officials.
The Israeli strikes followed hours after the Israeli military reported intercepting two drones launched from Yemeni territory. One drone reportedly penetrated deep into southern Israel, reaching the Gaza envelope, while the other was downed before crossing into Israeli-controlled airspace.
Yemeni officials have condemned the attack as an unprecedented breach of sovereignty and a clear indication of Israel’s intent to expand its military campaign beyond Gaza and southern Lebanon.
“This act of aggression signals a dangerous shift—targeting not only resistance groups but also legitimate governments in the region,” one senior Yemeni official stated.
The death of Prime Minister Al-Rahwi marks the highest-profile political assassination in Yemen since the country’s conflict erupted over a decade ago, and it signals a volatile new chapter in the Middle East’s rapidly evolving geopolitical landscape.
