The Special Representative of the UN Secretary-General for children and armed conflict Virginia Gamba received a response on Monday, December 12, to her question if Israel targeting Palestinian children from the deliberate killing of the Palestinian child Jana Zakarneh in Jenin.
Gamba’s visit to the 1948 occupied Palestinain lands and West Bank aimed to look at evidence of targeting Palestinian children during Israeli military operations and checked the possibility of including Israel in the blacklist of countries that target children.
Gamba’s Arrival coincided with Zakarneh’s killing by an Israeli occupation sniper bullet while she was looking for her cat on the top of her house roof in Jenin on December 12.
Jana Magdi Zakarneh, a 16-year-old Palestinian child, succumbed to her injuries after the Israeli occupation forces (IOF) stormed the eastern neighborhood of occupied Jenin and shot her in the head.
Virginia Gamba will follow up on Zakarneh’s murder, which will be among the results of her visit, and will report it to the UN.
Gamba previously warned ‘Israel’ of the possibility to add ‘Israel’ to the blacklist of countries targeting children if it continued these violations against Palestinian children. Consequently, the Israeli occupation takes Gamba’s visit seriously and they will claim that “Israel operates under international law and should not be blacklisted.”
In addition, many previous UN reports strictly condemned ‘Israel’ assaulting Palestinian children, their education process, and Palestinian educational institutions.
