DaysofPal — The United Nations Special Rapporteur on the occupied Palestinian territories, Francesca Albanese, has called for an immediate halt to arms supplies to the Israeli occupation, warning that continued military support enables ongoing violations against Palestinians.
Speaking in media remarks on Monday, Albanese said many Western governments are failing to take meaningful steps to restrain the Israeli crimes, allowing the long-standing Israeli abuses to continue unchecked.
“If weapons continue to flow, violations will continue,” she said, urging states to suspend military assistance as a means of pressure.
Albanese argued that Israeli violence against Palestinians has persisted for decades with little accountability, saying international reactions have too often been limited to repeated condemnations without concrete measures.
She also warned that Palestinians are experiencing one of the most difficult periods in their history, stressing the urgency of ending the violence.
In particularly contentious comments, Albanese said accusations of antisemitism are, in her view, sometimes used as a “major deception,” especially in Europe, to deflect criticism of Israeli government actions.
She emphasized that criticism directed at the Israeli occupation should be understood as opposition to state policies rather than hostility toward Jewish people.
Albanese raised alarm over what she described as efforts that could amount to ethnic cleansing, defined, she said, as making Palestinian land devoid of its native population.
She argued that some Israeli officials have presented Palestinians with stark choices between leaving their homeland or remaining under conditions of oppression.
The UN official expressed concern that many countries remain reluctant to challenge the Israeli occupation and the United States, warning that such reluctance undermines multilateral institutions and international law.
She urged governments to pursue alternative measures to protect international cooperation and uphold human rights standards.
Albanese concluded by reiterating that repeated expressions of concern are insufficient without concrete action, calling for an end to the use of force against Palestinians and stronger international intervention to halt the conflict
