Francesca Albanese, the UN special rapporteur to the Occupied Palestinian Territories, has issued a stark warning about the situation in Gaza, describing it as a potential onset of a “humanitarian” genocide.
In a recent post on X (formerly Twitter), Albanese criticized the Israeli approach towards the Palestinian population in Gaza. She highlighted the danger of conflating the civilian population with the resistance fighters, stating, “If Israel’s logic of assimilating and fighting against an entire civilian population [Palestinians in Gaza] to the perceived enemy [Hamas] is condoned and normalized, it will be the beginning of a new era: the era of ‘humanitarian’ genocides.”
Albanese’s statement calls for immediate action, urging the international community to prevent what she termed as an “abomination.” Her comments reflect growing concerns over the humanitarian crisis in Gaza and the implications of current Israeli military strategies on civilian lives.
