United Nat General Assembly has just adopted a resolution demanding that the Israeli occupation “brings to an end without delay its unlawful presence” in the Occupied Palestinian Territory within 12 months, including all soldiers and civilians.
Some 124 countries voted for the resolution, 14 opposed it, and 43 abstained. Israel, the US, Czechia, and Argentina are the largest countries opposing, along with Pacific island nations. Paraguay and Malawi also oppose the measure.
Many European nations abstain — including Ukraine, the UK, Germany and Italy — as do Canada and Australia. The resolution was basically sponsored by the State of Palestine and 29 other countries, mostly Muslim nations.
Palestinian representative Ryad Mansour was congratulated on the result of the vote during the emergency session on the legal consequences of Israel’s actions in the Palestinian territories at United Nations Headquarters on September 18, 2024.
The UN assembly demands that Israel comply with the International Court of Justice’s ruling issued in July regarding its presence in the West Bank and East Jerusalem, and it advocates for the imposition of a comprehensive arms embargo on Israel.
