DayofPal—French-Palestinian Member of the European Parliament Rima Hassan has been released by prosecutors in Paris following a period of detention, with a court appearance scheduled for July 7 over allegations of “praising terrorism online.”
The case stems from a previous post on the social media platform X referencing Kozo Okamoto, one of the perpetrators of the 1972 attack at Tel Aviv’s airport. The post was reportedly deleted, according to French media.
After her release, Hassan stated that she plans to hold a press conference to clarify the circumstances surrounding the case.
In a parallel development, prosecutors said a search of her belongings uncovered substances resembling CBD and 3-MMC, a synthetic drug.
Authorities indicated that this matter would be handled separately from the primary charges.
Hassan has firmly denied the allegations, describing them as “completely unfounded” and based on “illegal leaks,” maintaining that the only substance in her possession was CBD, which is legal.
The incident has sparked widespread political reactions in France. Allies of Hassan have characterized the move as part of escalating judicial pressure aimed at silencing pro-Palestinian voices.
Jean-Luc Mélenchon condemned the arrest as an act of “political policing,” while Manon Aubry suggested it reflects a broader pattern of legal pressure against the lawmaker.
Hassan is among the most prominent political figures in France advocating for Palestinian rights.
She has been actively involved in international initiatives, including participation in flotilla movements seeking to challenge the blockade on Gaza.
Since late 2023, she has also faced a separate judicial investigation on similar accusations linked to earlier public statements.
