The Israeli Occupation Supreme Court rejected a petition against the closure of the investigation into the martyrdom of the four children of the Bakr family in Gaza on Sunday, April 24th,
The petition was submitted by the parents of four children who were martyred as a result of a missile attack by the Israeli occupation air force, while they were playing on the seashore in Gaza City. On July 16, 2014, during the Israeli aggression on Gaza
Three human rights organizations submitted a petition in 2020, namely, Adalah – The Legal Center for Arab Minority Rights in Israel, Al Mezan Center for Human Rights, and the Palestinian Center for Human Rights (PCHR) by the Director-General of Adalah.
It is worth mentioning that these four kids have been targetted by what seemed to be a navy gunboat while others speculated that they were shot by the air force. the children were targeted in broad daylight on a sunny day with a 100% clear view. they were targeted by several shell attacks which they ran away from one only to be fought by another.
The 2014 incident while not the first– and certainly not the last– of Israeli deliberately targeting children, was particularly morbid because these children were from the same family only aged 9-11 harmlessly playing soccer and ran for their lives and died while their other relatives lived and have been living through incredible trauma.
the incident was witnessed by foreign journalists who stayed in a nearby hotel whom the children came to shelter from the attacks.
A joint statement between Al-Mizan, the Palestinian Center for Human Rights, and Adalah, issued by the latter on Sunday evening, stated that “The Israeli Supreme Court ruling in the Atfal Bakr case is further evidence that Israel is unable and unwilling to investigate and prosecute soldiers and commanders for crimes.” war perpetrated against Palestinian civilians.
He stressed that “This case is further evidence of the urgent need for international bodies, including the International Criminal Court, to hold Israeli leaders accountable.”

The statement stressed that “this fact highlights the urgent need to conduct independent and effective investigations, to hold all those responsible accountable. This case illustrates the nature of the indiscriminate and deadly attacks launched by the Israeli occupation army on Palestinian civilians during the 2014 Gaza war, during which more than 550 children were martyred, and directed The Israeli legal system defending Israeli aggression and the discretion of the Israeli army, providing complete impunity.”

In its report issued in June 2015, the United Nations Independent Commission of Inquiry on the Gaza conflict, 2014 expressed its grave concern for the closure of the investigation into this case, noting that there were “strong indications that the actions of the Israeli army were not in accordance with international humanitarian law and that the investigation does not appear to have been exhaustively done”
