DaysPal– Palestinian female prisoners in Israeli prisons are enduring one of the most brutal phases, as the Israeli prison services (IPS) escalate violations and attacks against them.
The Palestinian Prisoners Society (PPS) reported that since October 7, 2023, the Israeli occupation forces have intensified the arrest of Palestinian women and escalated crimes and attacks against them, particularly sexual assaults, which have emerged as a key element in the testimonies of female prisoners.
It explained that the Israeli forces have targeted mothers, elderly women, pregnant women, journalists, and minors, and have also detained some for multiple periods as hostages, aiming to pressure a wanted family member into surrendering.
The club stated that 88 female prisoners are known by their names, including four from Gaza are in Israeli prisoners.
The statement added: “Among the female prisoners are 22 administrative detainees, 18 students, 5 journalists, 2 lawyers, and 2 minors.”
It pointed out that this data does not include all female prisoners from Gaza, as only the number in Al-Damon Prison is available.
Female prisoners from Gaza are likely detained in other prisons and camps, where they may be subjected to enforced disappearance, similar to hundreds of other detainees from Gaza.
According to the Prisoners Club, more than 12,100 citizens from the West Bank, including Jerusalem, have been arrested since October 7, 2023, excluding Gaza, where the number of arrests is estimated to be in the thousands.
