Six Palestinian detainees in Israeli jails remain on open-ended hunger strike for varying periods in protest of their administrative detention without a charge or trial.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club ensured that the four Palestinian detainees Saif Qassem Hamdan, Osama Maher Khalil, Qusay Jamal Khader, and Saleh Raafat Rabaya are continuing their hunger strike for the 10th day in a row.
Meanwhile, the Palestinian detainees Kayed Al-Fasfous and Sultan Khalouf have been on hunger strike for the 6th day in a row, the club added.
According to the Palestinian Prisoners Club, the 29-year-old Palestinian detainee Saif Hamdan from the town of Barqa, Nablus has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since October 4, 2022.
Saleh Rabaya, 22, from the town of Mithlon in Jenin has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since February 8 of 2023.
The Israeli occupation has arrested the 25-year-old Palestinian young man Qusai Khader from Al-Amari camp, Ramallah, since December 14, 2022. Khader is a former detainee who spent 14 months in the Israeli jails and shortly after his release, Israeli troops rearrested him.
Osama Khalil, 23, from Al-Fara’a camp has been detained in the Israeli jail of Nafha since May 17, 2022.
The Palestinian Prisoners Club noted that Israeli occupation held a session for Sultan Khalouf, 42, from the town of Burqin and extended his detention for 72 hours.
Club pointed out that Khalouf is a former prisoner who spent years in Israeli jails, noting that he carried out an open-ended hunger strike that lasted for 67 days in protest against his administrative detention in 2019.
Kayed Al-Fasfous, 34, from the city of Dura has been detained since May 2, 2023. Al-Fasfous is a former detainee who spent about 7 years in Israeli prisons, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Club.
Al-Fasfous went on an open-ended hunger strike in 2021 that lasted 131 days as well as in 2019 in protest of his administrative detention. It is reported that all of his siblings were arrested and he is married and has a daughter.
The Israeli occupation has escalated its administrative detention policy against Palestinians as the number of administrative detainees currently exceeded 760, including minors, women, and the elderly, according to the Palestinian Prisoners Commission.
The Commission added that 80 percent of the administrative detainees are former prisoners who spent years in the prisons most were administrative detentions.
Since 2023, the Israeli occupation has issued about 1978 administrative detention warrants until the end of last July, according to the data of the Prisoners’ Club.
Israel’s illegal policy of administrative detention is a pre-emptive measure that allows the detention of Palestinians without charge or trial for lengthy periods of time based on disclosed allegations that even a detainee’s lawyer is barred from viewing.
Palestinian detainees have constantly resorted to hunger strikes as a method to oppose their administrative detention, demanding an end to this illegal policy that violates international law and Human rights accords.
