An Israeli report shed light on Monday, August 7, 2023, on settlers initiating a broad plan to take control of the largest area of land in the West Bank for settlement expansion through a series of farms established in strategic areas.
According to “Yedioth Ahronoth” newspaper, as reported by Safa agency, settlers have recently resorted to the method of “settlement farms,” by establishing dozens of farms in strategic areas in the West Bank and on hills, with the aim of converting them into future settlements. The idea is to have fewer settlers controlling a larger area of land.
The newspaper stated, “There is no exact number of settlement farms in the West Bank, extending from its north to south, as clashes between settlers in these farms and Palestinians have increased recently.”
A high-level Israeli source told the newspaper that “the story of these farms is complex, with daily frictions occurring in grazing areas, and these clashes escalate rapidly and enter the area into high tension.”
Another source also commented on the recent killing of a young man from the village of Burqa in the Ramallah district by one of the settlers residing in these farms, saying: “These events increase the chances of further escalation in the West Bank. Such actions draw new circles of Palestinians into the cycle of operations, which have remained neutral for a long time.”
