DaysofPal — Israeli occupation forces released senior Hamas leader Hassan Yousef on Thursday evening after he spent 32 months in administrative detention, according to Palestinian sources.
His release comes amid concerns over his deteriorating health following years of imprisonment.
Family sources reported that Yousef was freed in poor physical condition, suffering from a torn tendon in his arm and a significant weight loss of approximately 30 kilograms during his detention.
Yousef had been arrested more than two years ago and placed under administrative detention, a measure that allows incarceration without formal charges or trial.
His detention order was reportedly renewed five consecutive times. This period adds to a long history of imprisonment, with Yousef having spent more than 25 years in Israeli prisons over several separate terms.
Following his release, Hamas Movement issued a statement congratulating the Palestinian people, prisoners, and Yousef’s family.
The group described him as a national symbol and a steadfast figure known for his resilience throughout decades of struggle.
“Hassan Yousef represents a prominent national figure who remained committed to his principles and defended his people’s rights despite isolation, torture, and medical neglect,” the statement said.
Hamas reiterated that the issue of Palestinian prisoners remains a top priority and praised the resilience of detainees who continue to face harsh conditions in Israeli prisons.
The movement also called for increased support and solidarity with Palestinian prisoners and urged international human rights organizations to intensify efforts to expose Israeli violations and work toward ending their suffering and securing their release.
