A Saudi delegation visited Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas in Ramallah, Palestinian official sources stated on Tuesday، 26 September 2023, amid diplomatic efforts to secure a normalization agreement between Israeli apartheid and Saudi Arabia that could involve concessions for Palestinians.
The delegation was led by Nayef Al-Sudairi, the non-resident Saudi envoy to the Palestinians, who was appointed last month, the sources added.
The visit marks the first by Saudi officials to the occupied West Bank since the Oslo Accords in 1993 and comes against a background of a warming of relations between the Israeli regime and Saudi Arabia. The visit took part after both Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Israeli occupation Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu stated last week that efforts were underway to reach a new normalization agreement between Israeli apartheid and Saudi Arabia.
Earlier, A Palestinian delegation reportedly visited Saudi Arabia demanding that Riyadh enforce the Arab Peace Initiative in exchange for normalization with the Israeli regime, sources reported.
The initiative conditions diplomatic relations with Israel on a withdrawal from the West Bank and the Gaza Strip, paving the way for an independent Palestinian state.
The source added that the Palestinian Authority also requested that the state be granted full membership status in the United Nations.
The Saudi visit to the occupied West Bank comes after years of hypothesis that Riyadh and Tel Aviv would normalize ties in the aftermath of the controversial normalization Accords in which Bahrain, Morocco, and the UAE established official ties with Israeli apartheid turning a blind eye on Palestinians ongoing suffering.
For Palestinians, This visit and the expected normalization agreement come amid a high crime wave under the far-right Israeli government led by Netanyahu’s coalition.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu is leading the most right-wing and religious government Israel has had since its establishment, with Itamar Ben-Gvir and Bezalel Smotrich — two far-right politicians known for racist and Jewish supremacist rhetoric — serving as senior ministers.
Netanyahu’s fanatics ministers including Ben-Gvir and Smotrich adopt racist measures against the Palestinian people. These measures included filed executions, home demolitions, and suppressive measures against Palestinian detainees.
Since 1979, Six Arab countries normalized ties with Israeli apartheid forming with Egypt, Jordan in 1994, the United Arab Emirates (UAE), Bahrain, Sudan, and Morocco in 2020 through the so-called “Abraham Accords” brokered by the United States.
The Normalization Accords waged a strong wave of anger among Palestinians and much of the Arab world who strongly denounced awarding Israeli occupation while it continues to occupy the Palestinian lands and commit heinous crimes against its people.
