Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi warned on Wednesday, September 21st, 2023, that if Saudi Arabia solidified its relations with ‘Israel’, it would constitute a betrayal of the Palestinian cause.
Raisi made his remarks during a press conference on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly meetings, where he was asked about the recent rapprochement between Saudi Arabia and ‘Israel’. He only welcomed the recent thaw in relations between Tehran and Riyadh and emphasized that Iran’s relationship with Saudi Arabia has been evolving since last spring under the auspices of China.
“We haven’t heard anything of the sort,” the Iranian President added referring to the current Saudi-Israeli rapprochement.
“Nevertheless, if a relationship is established between the Zionist regime of ‘Israel’ and any state in the region to ensure security for ‘Israel’, it will certainly not achieve that,” he added.
Raisi believed that any relationship between regional states and ‘Israel’ would be a stab in the back of the Palestinian people and Palestinian resistance.
In contrast, Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman asserted that negotiations are proceeding rapidly between his country and ‘Israel’, stressing “The Palestinian issue is very important for us. We must resolve it.”
Bin Salman told Fox News, “We are getting closer and closer every day” along the path of normalizing relations with ‘Israel, hoping that the stepped-up efforts would “lead to a tangible result that makes life easier for the Palestinians and allows ‘Israel’ to play a key role in the Middle East.”
Raisi’s cautions come at a time when US President Joe Biden is pooling efforts to expedite normalizing ties, especially after he discussed the issue of relations between Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman and Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu in New York.
