Palestinians rallied in Al-Fureidis on its main street Route 4, which has been the subject of a recent surge in criminal activity, to express their frustration and outrage over the perceived inaction of the Israeli police.
The catalyst for this protest was the tragic murder of a young man named Ahmed Afif Mar’i.
Calls for Accountability
Protesters displayed banners and placards that carried powerful messages, urging law enforcement to take decisive action against organized crime. Slogans such as “The Police are Accomplices,” “We Will Not Remain Silent,” and “Our Children’s Blood Is Not Cheap,” resonated through the demonstration.
Activism Against Crime
This protest was organized by a dedicated youth group in Al-Fureidis that has been actively involved in combating crime in the area. The group’s efforts have gained momentum over the past few weeks as they’ve worked tirelessly to address the pressing issue of crime within their community.
Alarming Rise in Homicides within the Arab Community
The Arab community has witnessed an alarming surge in homicides since the beginning of the year, with a staggering 155 fatalities, including 9 women. These statistics represent an unprecedented rise in violence when compared to previous years.
In the month of August alone, 26 Palestinians were victims of various crimes, further raising concerns regarding the safety and security of the Arab community.
Persistent Issue
This grim situation highlights the ongoing crisis of homicides becoming increasingly common within the Arab community, as the Israeli police fails to tackle organized crime effectively.
The inability of law enforcement by the Israeli police to address organized crime, coupled with suspicions of collusion between some authorities and criminal organizations, has contributed to a prevailing sense of impunity among criminals.
