Children in Gaza organized a protest on Wednesday, August 16, 2023, to denounce the ongoing Israeli blockade on the Gaza Strip, calling for lifting the blockade and ending the suffering of people in Gaza.
Scores of children gathered at Gaza Port, chanting slogans demanding their human rights and urging the international community to stand by the Palestinian people, especially children.
Banan Nasrallah, a young participant, said, “The occupation has imposed this oppressive blockade for 17 years. I speak on behalf of the wounded, grieving, and deprived Palestinian children, robbed of their basic rights guaranteed by human laws.”
Nasrallah directed a message to the international community, stating, “Do you know, world, that the blockade prevents the entry of 320 medical devices, 390 types of necessary medications and treatments?”
“Did you know that the blockade has raised the poverty rate in Gaza to nearly 60% and unemployment to 44%? Did you know that the blockade has inflicted losses of $200 million on the reconstruction of destroyed homes?” she added.
Nasrallah emphasized that Palestinian children wake up every day with a heavy heart, lamenting the harsh reality they live in, alongside their people. She stated, “Our message today is that we demand the lifting of the oppressive blockade on besieged Gaza.”
