The Israeli occupation has been escalating the administrative detention against Palestinian children and women recently, as it administratively detains 19 minors and three women, the Palestinian Center for Prisoners Studies (PCPS) said Wednesday, June 14, 2023.
PCPS reported the Israeli policy of administrative detention has affected all categories of Palestinian society. The Israeli occupation has indiscriminately issued hundreds of such orders against Palestinian, including minors and women.
It added three Palestinian women are administratively detained in Israeli prison, namely Samah Hijjawi, Raghad Al-Fanni, and Rawda Abu Ajameyya.
PCPS director Riyad Al-Ashqar indicated that Israeli courts have issued over 26 administrative detention orders against Palestinian minors so far in 2023. Half of them had their administrative detention renewed for the second time, including those who spent their childhood in prisons.
He said Israeli occupation detains minor administrative detainees in Ofer and Megiddo Israeli prisons, depriving them of their right to hire lawyers to defend them.
Most of the charges against them relate to posts on social media on their personal pages, which the Israeli occupation claims incite resistance against it.
The Israeli occupation authorities claim that the Palestinian administrative detainees have secret files that cannot be disclosed at all, so the detainee does not know the length of his sentence or the charge against him.
The administrative detainee is often subject to the renewal of the detention period more than once, and it may sometimes reach a full year, which is also subject to renewal.
The Israeli occupation currently retains over 1200 administrative detainees inside its prisons, most of whom are in prisons (Ofer, the Negev, and Megiddo), including 14 children and 3 female prisoners.
