The number of administratively detained Palestinian minors in Israeli prisons has recently increased to 12, the Palestine Center for Prisoner Studies (PCPS) confirmed Monday, May 22, 2023.
PCPS stated that the Israeli occupation has escalated the policy of administrative detention against minors this year, as the number of administrative minor detainees has recently increased to 12.
So far in 2023, the Israeli courts issued hundreds of administrative detention orders against Palestinian minors under eighteen years old. Currently, 12 minors are subject to administrative detention in Israeli prisons.
The director of the centre, Riyad Al-Ashqar, explained that the occupation courts transferred 4 Palestinian minors to administrative detention during the current month of May.
“the occupation authorities are detaining minors who are administratively detained in the juvenile sections of Ofer and Megiddo prisons and denying them their right to know the charges against them, most of which are related to posts on social media on their personal pages that the occupation claims incite resistance,” Al-Ashqar pointed out.
He indicated that the number of administrative detainees in the occupation prisons increased to more than (1030) prisoners, most of whom are ex-detainees, including two females.
