Samer Ghazi Issa Mutaab, a 46-year-old Palestinian from Jerusalem, entered on Monday, August 21, 2023, his twenty-third consecutive year of imprisonment in the Israeli occupation’s prisons.
Samer Ghazi Issa Mutaab was detained on August 21, 2001, and subsequently sentenced to 23 years in prison by the Israeli authorities.
Renowned for his remarkable artistic skills, Mutaab has used his talents to bring joy and happiness to the hearts of both prisoners and their families. He has become a symbol of resilience and creativity behind bars, crafting intricate and beautiful greeting cards that prisoners offer as gifts to their loved ones during special occasions.
Throughout his incarceration, Mutaab has been transferred among various detention facilities, currently finding himself in the “Ramon” desert prison. His journey has been one of hardship and perseverance, overcoming challenges such as deliberate medical negligence and enduring a long-awaited surgical procedure.
Tragically, Mutaab’s father passed away several years ago, and the prison administration denied him the opportunity to bid a final farewell or participate in the funeral procession. This event only added to the emotional burden that he carried throughout his time behind bars.
As he completes another year of imprisonment, his story continues to inspire many, reminding the world of the enduring resilience of Palestinian people in the face of adversity.
