The Palestinian Prisoners Club announced on Wednesday, July 13, that the oldest prisoner in the Israeli occupation prisons Fouad Al-Shobaki was infected with the Coronavirus.
The club said that the 83-year-old prisoner, Fouad Al-Shobaki, the oldest detainee in the occupation prisons, tested positive for the Coronavirus in Askalan prison.
With Shobaki infected with Coronavirus, the number of prisoners who tested positive for the contagious virus in Askalan prison has risen to 17.
The prisoner Al-Shobaki was sentenced to 20 years in prison, which was later reduced to 17 years. He is known as the “Sheikh of the Prisoners” as he is the oldest among Palestinian detainees. He suffers from several diseases as well.
On July 6, the Israeli court rejected the early release of Al-Shobaki, who has only 8 months left to the end of his 17-year sentence.
According to the Palestinian Commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees’ affairs, 600 Palestinian prisoners, including 31 women, 172 children, and 682 administrative detainees have tested positive for the contagious virus from the beginning of the pandemic till May 2022.
