Gaza’s government office confirmed on Tuesday the tragic death of Palestinian journalist Mohammed Abdullah Mashmash in an Israeli airstrike, marking another grim chapter in the ongoing violence against media workers in the enclave.
Mashmash, known as the director of programmes at Al-Aqsa Voice Radio, a local station in the war-torn region, was killed during an Israeli airstrike targeting the UN-run Al-Razi school in Nuseirat refugee camp. The strike resulted in the deaths of at least five people, as reported by Palestinian news outlets.
According to Gaza’s government office, this tragic incident adds to a staggering toll, with at least 160 Palestinian journalists killed since Israel’s military offensive began on October 7. Media personnel continue to face relentless attacks amid the conflict.
In a statement to Turkish news agency Anadolu, Gaza’s government office expressed profound sorrow, praying for mercy and peace for all slain journalists, and offering solace to their bereaved families and the Palestinian journalism community.
The bombing of the school coincided with intensified Israeli crimes on Tuesday, resulting in a significant loss of life. According to Gaza’s civil defense spokesperson, the strikes killed at least 44 Palestinians and injured 99 in the besieged territory.
