Israeli forces Tuesday overnight detained seven Palestinians and assaulted others across the West Bank, said the Palestine Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
PPS confirmed in a press release that Israeli police rounded up two brothers, including a former prisoner, after ransacking their parents’ house in the East Jerusalem neighborhood of Silwan.
Meanwhile, Israeli troops stormed several houses and rounded up a Palestinian in Hebron city.
In the Jordan Valley, PPS confirmed an Israeli military raid in Aqbat Jaber refugee camp, south of Jericho city, resulting in the severe assaulting and detention of a former prisoner.
In Nablus district, Israeli military vehicles stormed Balata refugee camp, where soldiers rounded up another.
Another Palestinian from the camp was detained as he attempted to cross Huwara military checkpoint, south of Nablus.
In Bethlehem district, soldiers conducted a raid in Harmala village, south of the city, resulting in the detention of another.
Israeli forces frequently raid Palestinian houses almost on a daily basis across the West Bank on the pretext of searching for “wanted” Palestinians, triggering clashes with residents.
These raids, which take place also in areas under the full control of the Palestinian Authority, are conducted with no need for a search warrant, whenever and wherever the military chooses in keeping with its sweeping arbitrary powers.
According to Palestinian figures, roughly 5,700 Palestinians — including numerous women and children — are currently languishing in Israeli detention facilities.
Under Israeli military law army commanders have full executive, legislative and judicial authority over 3 million Palestinians living in the West Bank. Palestinians have no say in how this authority is exercised.
