Al-Aqsa Mosque will reopen for Muslim worshippers soon after the end of Eid al-Fitr holiday next week after two months of closure due to the coronavirus outbreak, the Islamic Waqf department, which is in charge of the mosque, said today.
It said in a statement that after reviewing the situation with coronavirus today, it has decided that with the control of the disease and after consulting medical professionals, it was decided to reopen it for prayer after the holiday.
It said that it will later issue a statement explaining the procedures for the reopening of the mosque and for prayer.
Al-Aqsa Mosque is the third holiest site in Islam and usually attracts tens of thousands of Muslim worshippers during the weekly Friday prayer and hundreds of thousands during the holy fast month of Ramadan. This Ramadan, however, the mosque remained closed for worship.
