Palestinian political prisoner in Israeli detention, Nabil Abu Ghalasi, 50 years old, entered today his 21st year behind bars, said the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society (PPS).
Abu Ghalasi was arrested in 2000 and was sentenced to 23 years in jail for his activism in the resistance against the Israeli occupation. He is one of 50 prisoners who have served more than 20 years in Israeli jails.
Prior to his arrest in 2000, he had been arrested several times by Israeli occupation forces in 1987, 1989, 1990, 1993 and 1994.
There are more than 5,000 Palestinian and Arab prisoners in Israeli jails serving various sentences for resisting the Israeli occupation of their homeland.
