Days of Palestine, Jerusalem –Israeli PM Benjamin Netanyahu asked on Tuesday Israeli security to “act aggressively” with Palestinians in Jerusalem.
After a meeting with security officials, attended by Jerusalem’s mayor and the legal advisor of the Israeli government, Netanyahu “instructed that forces be strengthened” in areas where protests take place and that they “should act aggressively against ‘rioters.’”
Times of Israel reported excerpts from a statement issued by Netanyahu’s office. “He [Netanyahu] stressed that the current situation must not be allowed to become the norm,” it said.
Since July’s killing of a Palestinian teen by Jewish extremists in Jerusalem and the start of the Israeli war on Gaza, the Israeli police said they have arrested more than 700 Palestinians in East Jerusalem since, including at least 250 minors.

Palestinian and Israeli rights groups said that the Israeli police and army used “excessive force” when they arrested the Palestinian protesters.
“Recently there have been stone-throwing incidents, public disturbances and violence,” the statement quoted Netanyahu as telling Tuesday’s meeting.
“We need to deal with this not only in light of the coming holidays but also in a fundamental way.”
