The Palestinian Ministry of Health announced on Tuesday that 1,151 healthcare workers have been killed in Gaza since the war began on October 7, 2023. Of these, the ministry has confirmed and verified the identities of 986 victims, as the death toll continues to climb amid the ongoing war.
A detailed report released by the Gaza Ministry of Health, which was reviewed by Days of Palestine, provides a breakdown of the 986 confirmed martyrs from the healthcare sector. Of these, 706 were men and 280 were women.
The report highlights that 593 healthcare workers from the Ministry of Health were martyred, with 230 killed while on duty. An additional 309 former employees also lost their lives. The private healthcare sector also suffered heavy losses, with 39 of its workers killed in the conflict.
According to the report, the healthcare workers who were killed include 146 doctors, 31 specialist physicians, 50 dentists, 65 general practitioners, and 18 ambulance drivers.
The Ministry of Health documented 868 healthcare martyrs whose data is registered in their official records, emphasizing the devastating toll the war has taken on those providing essential medical services during the ongoing crisis.
Gaza’s Soaring Death Toll
On Monday, the Ministry of Health published another detailed report containing the names of 34,344 Palestinians who have been killed during what has now become a 12-month-long war on Gaza. Among the dead are 11,983 children under the age of 18.
The report further confirmed that 710 of these children were infants, killed before reaching their first birthday. Additionally, 2,734 elderly Palestinians over the age of 60 were among the martyrs.
A Year of Unrelenting Violence
The war, described by many as a genocide, has entered its 12th month. Israeli military forces continue to target civilian homes, leading to repeated massacres in densely populated areas of Gaza. Despite widespread international outcry, the violence persists, and calls for action remain largely unanswered.
As of yesterday, the total number of Palestinians killed in the Israeli assault on Gaza has reached 41,226, with an additional 95,413 people wounded, according to figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health.
The relentless bombing, destruction of infrastructure, and loss of life have left Gaza’s healthcare system in a state of collapse, with medical professionals on the front lines increasingly becoming victims themselves.
