In a fervent condemnation of recent events, the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) has decried the actions of Israeli occupation forces who stormed the revered Bab al-Rahma mosque within the sacred Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, causing destruction and theft of its sacred contents.
The OIC’s official statement, issued on Saturday, characterized this intrusion as a flagrant violation of the sanctity of holy places and freedom of worship, as well as a severe affront to the sentiments and faith of Muslims worldwide. It underscores the gravity of this act, which threatens to escalate tensions in the already volatile region.
The OIC emphasized that Bab al-Rahma mosque constitutes an integral part of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, occupying an expansive area of 144 dunums. The organization unequivocally stated that this reprehensible act is consistent with broader Israeli occupation policies designed to alter the legal and historical status quo within the sacred mosque, further intensifying tensions in the region.
Furthermore, the OIC called upon the United Nations Security Council to assume its responsibilities in putting an end to the ongoing Israeli violations against the Palestinian people, their homeland, and their holy sites. This plea for international intervention seeks to curtail the rising tension and restore a semblance of peace to the region.
The OIC also appealed to the international community, urging immediate and effective measures to safeguard the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people. It implored the world to hold the Israeli occupation accountable for its actions, which have been marked by a series of crimes and violations against the Palestinian population.
The Bab al-Rahma mosque, situated within the eastern wall of the Al-Aqsa Mosque, holds deep historical and religious significance. After being shuttered by Israeli authorities in 2003, it was finally reopened by Palestinians in 2019. This act of reclamation was viewed as a crucial step toward preserving the historical and religious heritage of the Al-Aqsa Mosque.
