DaysofPal- The United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has warned that the escalating famine in the Gaza Strip, resulting from the ongoing Israeli siege, threatens children’s future and hinders their physical and mental development, amid catastrophic signs of widespread malnutrition among civilians.
In an official statement, OCHA confirmed that children are suffering from severely weakened immune systems and developmental delays due to the acute shortage of food and nutritional supplements, noting that cases are increasing daily as the humanitarian crisis deepens.
The statement added that the Israeli occupation, through its full control over aid entry, is actively “engineering starvation” by allowing limited quantities of food to enter sporadically and under chaotic distribution conditions.
According to OCHA, the aid is delivered in ways that witnesses describe as resembling “zombie scenes,” where thousands of starving people rush aid trucks and airdropped parcels, and only those strong enough to push through the crowd manage to get food, leaving behind the most vulnerable: children, women, the elderly, the sick, and even medical workers.
Moreover, OCHA stressed that the situation not only endangers the lives of civilians but also jeopardizes the future of an entire generation in Gaza, especially as the healthcare system collapses and lacks the medication and equipment needed to treat malnutrition cases.
It concluded its statement by calling on the international community to take immediate action to open safe humanitarian corridors and allow unimpeded entry of aid, warning that the continuation of the current conditions could lead to an irreversible humanitarian catastrophe.
