A Palestinian activist revealed on Thursday, August 31, 2023, that the number of Palestinian prisoners serving life sentences in Israeli occupation prisons has risen to 559.
Among them is prisoner Samir Ibrahim Abu Na’ma, who has been incarcerated since 1986.
Abdul Nasser Farawneh, a researcher specialized in prisoner affairs, stated earlier Thursday that the Israeli occupation court issued a life sentence plus 26 years against prisoner Ahmed Qanba from Jenin, who has been in detention since 2018.
The Israeli court accuses Qanba of driving the vehicle used by the martyr Ahmed Jarar during a shooting attack in January 2018, which resulted in the killing of an Israeli settler in Nablus, northern West Bank.
Palestinian Prisoners in Numbers
The occupation authorities currently detain around 5,000 Palestinian prisoners spread across 23 prisons, detention, and interrogation centers.
This includes 31 women detainees held in Damon Prison, along with 160 young individuals under the age of 18. Furthermore, there are 1,200 cases of administrative detention, encompassing two women prisoners and 19 minors.
