Jordan’s Minister of Foreign Affairs and Expatriates, Ayman Safadi, affirmed his country’s position on the two-state solution as the only way to create an independent Palestinian state with Jerusalem as its capital, according to a Jordanian Foreign Ministry statement.
In a meeting with the Special Envoy of the Chinese Government on the Middle East Issue, Zhai Jun, Safadi said “The continued absence of a political horizon to resume serious and effective negotiations to resolve the Palestinian issue on the basis of the two-state solution poses a threat to regional and international security.”
“There is no alternative to the two-state solution that establishes the independent, sovereign Palestinian state with occupied Jerusalem as its capital on the June 4, 1967 borders,” Safadi added.
Safadi and the Chinese envoy discussed regional and international efforts to find the necessary political horizon to maintain calm and boost the Palestinian economy.
He stressed the need for Israel to respect Jerusalem’s legal and historic status quo and its sanctities, avoid imposing restrictions on worshipers, and stop all provocative measures in the holy sites, especially during the holy month of Ramadan.
