The owner of the house, Mahmoud Salhia, and his family members climbed to the roof of the house, threatening to set himself and his family on fire if the house in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood was evacuated after a nursery belonging to the same family was evacuated.
A Jerusalemite family barricaded themselves in their home, on Monday, and threatened to burn it, in response to an attempt by the Israeli police to expel them.
The Israeli municipality in Jerusalem had announced its decision to displace the Salhiya family a nursery and a house they belong to, in the Sheikh Jarrah neighborhood, to establish a school.
The family tried to block the eviction order, but in the past years and months, the Israeli courts rejected the petitions they had submitted against being expelled from the nursery and home.
A large force of the Israeli police arrived at the nursery, where they evacuated the nursery by force, before attempting to evacuate the house.
However, the owner of the house, Mahmoud al-Salihiya, and his family members climbed to the roof of the house, threatening to set himself and his family on fire, if the displacement take place.
Salhiya said while carrying a container of gasoline: “He who goes out of his house is a traitor. We will not leave here, either we die or we live.”
He added, “I will burn myself with my children at home, and we will not leave the house.”
He continued, “The (Israeli) municipality wants to remove a family from their home to establish schools. Who are the schools for? Schools for them, for the Jews.”
