The spokesman for the commission of Detainees and Ex-detainees Affairs, Hassan Abd Rabbo, said on Wednesday, August 24, 2022, that the Israeli Supreme Court has set a session next Sunday, regarding the prisoner on hunger strike, for the 165th day, Khalil, Awawdeh.
Abd Rabbo added, in a press statement, that the appointment of the session came after his lawyer submitted a petition today to the Supreme Court against freezing the decision of his administrative detention and not canceling it.
He stated that Awawdeh, 40, from the town of Idna, west of Hebron, continues his hunger strike for the 165th day, in refusal of his administrative detention, in light of a serious deterioration in his health.
The so-called “military commander” of the occupation decided to freeze the administrative detention of detainee Awawda, which means to keep his detention and renew the administrative detention for him after his health improved, but the prisoner decided to continue his strike until his immediate release.
According to the Prisoner’s Club, the decision to freeze was based on medical data and reports from the hospital, indicating a danger to his life. However, if his health condition improves and the detainee decides to leave the hospital, his administrative detention will be activated immediately.
Awawdeh is in a life-threatening conditions as he continues his hunger strike for the 166 which he holds in protest against his unfair administrative detention without being charged nor given an end to his detention period. Awawdeh’s release has been taken into consideration as a condition for the end of the military confrontations between the Israeli occupation forces and PIJ, that took place in early August, but his release is still not being considered by the Israeli occupation authorities in spite of clear health deterioration and his possible death and even the breaking of the thin truce held in Gaza.
