DaysofPal – Despite a ceasefire that has been in place for nearly a month, Israeli forces continue to launch attacks across the Gaza Strip, killing more than 240 Palestinians since early October, according to Gaza’s Health Ministry.
Israeli warplanes and artillery struck several areas overnight, including the outskirts of Bani Suheila east of Khan Younis and neighborhoods in Gaza City such as Tuffah, Daraj, and Shuja’iyya.
Local sources reported that the attacks also extended to Deir al-Balah in central Gaza and the Zeitoun area southeast of Gaza City, while Israeli gunboats opened fire toward the coast of Rafah in the south.
In Khan Younis, Israeli forces carried out large-scale demolitions targeting homes and residential blocks amid continuous artillery and air bombardment of the city’s eastern outskirts. Witnesses described the scenes as “a new wave of destruction” despite the ongoing truce.
Medical sources at Al-Awda Hospital said a civilian was killed while collecting firewood east of the Bureij refugee camp after being hit by Israeli artillery fire, one of multiple incidents described as clear violations of the ceasefire that went into effect on October 10.
Local and international human rights organizations have documented more than ten new breaches since early Thursday, including air and artillery strikes, home demolitions, and heavy gunfire. Observers warn that the continued escalation threatens to unravel the fragile truce brokered by regional and international mediators.
Dissension within Israel’s military has increased in the meantime. The army’s Chief of Staff received a letter from about 100 reserve soldiers and officers accusing the forces of “harming innocent civilians during the war” and warning of a “dangerous erosion of the army’s moral values” in its operations in Gaza, the West Bank, and Lebanon, according to the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation.
Field reports suggest that the ceasefire has effectively broken down on the ground, as Israel maintains its military operations and demolition activities across multiple parts of the Strip. Analysts fear that continued violations could trigger a return to full-scale hostilities and further deepen Gaza’s humanitarian crisis.
