Hundreds of extremist Israeli settlers on Friday stormed several gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound in the occupied city of Jerusalem, according to local sources.
Reports indicate that hundreds of Jewish supremacists, under the protection of Israeli occupation forces, were chanting anti-Palestinian and anti-Arab slogans as Palestinians walked toward the compound for Friday prayers.
The settlers went to the vicinity of the Lions’ Gate (Bab al-Asbat), smashing vehicle windows in the vicinity and attempting to harm worshippers heading to the holy site.
The Israeli occupation police responded to the attackers by shooting stun grenades leading to several injured.
Tension has mounted in the territories following the thousands of Israeli supremists’ ‘Flag march’ which took place in Jerusalem’s Old City.
The shop owners in the Jerusalem’s Old City were compelled to shut down their shops on Thursday because of the armed Israeli forces’ intimidation which was done in order to guarantee safety during the protest march.
Various Israeli officials, among them National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Transportation Minister Miri Regev, participated in the controversial ‘Flag March’, according to media reports.
