A group of Israeli settlers destroyed more than 20 mature olive trees to the east of Qaryut village in Nablus, on Wednesday morning, August 16, 2023.
Bashar Qaryuti, an activist in the anti-settlement movement, stated that the settlers employed a new method to kill the olive trees by striking their trunks with hammers, causing immediate harm and eventually leading to their death.
While Israeli forces granted settlers access to the vicinity during the nighttime hours, the owners of these trees discovered the settlers’ assault as they went to cultivate their lands in the morning
Qaryuti emphasized that this recent attack aims to gradually destroy the trees, with the ultimate goal of emptying the land of its vegetation.
Settler violations in the West Bank have noticeably escalated, with a Palestinian research center documenting 1,250 settler attacks from the beginning of the year until the end of July.
These attacks range from harassing pedestrians to uprooting trees, burning crops, vandalizing slogans, road closures, and targeting Palestinians.
Settler violence and attacks against Palestinian lands and properties have been a persistent and ongoing issue in the occupied West Bank, causing significant harm and destruction to Palestinian communities and livelihoods.
Israeli settlers routinely practice ecological apartheid through various forms of discriminatory actions against Palestinian lands and natural resources.
