Israeli Settlers Block Main Road to Masafer Yatta Area

Israeli settlers try to block the road ahead of the vehicle carrying Israeli Housing Minister Yoav Galant, in the settlement outpost of Amona, which was established in 1997 and built on private Palestinian land, in the Israeli-occupied West Bank on December 18, 2016. Hundreds of supporters of Israel's settler movement arrived at the outpost, where some 40 families live, to protest against the Israeli high court order to demolish the place by December 25 because it was built on private Palestinian land. / AFP PHOTO / JACK GUEZ

Days of Palestine – Hebron

Israeli settlers blocked on Sunday the main road leading to the Masafer Yatta area, a collection of 19 Palestinian hamlets in the farthest south of the occupied West Bank, according to local sources.

Rateb Jabour, a local anti-occupation activist, told the official WAFA news agency that settlers blocked with rocks the main road used by Palestinians to access the Masafer Yatta area, denying access of Palestinians into and out of the area.

Settler violence against Palestinians and their property is routine in the West Bank and is rarely prosecuted by Israeli authorities.

There are over 600,000 Israeli settlers living in colonial settlements in the West Bank and East Jerusalem in violation of international law.
